Jasper soft is a popular, open source reporting software. Its popularity can be attributed to the fact that it can be embedded and integrated easily into any application.
Before customising your report, you need to configure a new data source for the reporting PostgreSQL database. You need to perform this step only once.
The Jasper Soft Business Intelligence Suite is a comprehensive Business Intelligence(BI) suite that provides robust reporting, report server, data analysis and data integration for organisations that want to make faster and more informed business decisions.
Jasper Reports Server can connect to just about any data source. JasperReports Server comes standard with connection wizards for JDBC, JNDI, and Bean (Java bean) data sources.
Before we start with analytics, below is the procedure to be followed to create PostgreSQL data source.
Once you have created a domain, select your domain by clicking-
Ad Hoc Views > Create > Your domain > View Data
From here, you can choose your fields by dragging them over to “Selected Fields.”
After selecting the fields, on the left, below your domain you can see all the fields and measures. The right-side has your empty report, labeled “New Ad Hoc View.”
Now you can do a little drag and drop. Let’s start with a field from the left corner over to “columns”. A table is generated and on clicking “title”, we can add a title generates and by clicking on the title above the table we can add a title for the table.
These are the basics of generating a Jaspersoft report by using PostgreSQL data source. I will be writing about designing different types of report views, handling security and constructing dashboards on Jaspersoft soon, so stay tuned for more ‘how to’s’.
