Integration Of To-Do With Odoo Calendar – Subhashree

The main aim of integrating “To-do” in the calendar module is to support the task management in Odoo. Since it is very difficult to remember multiple tasks, we may miss some by the end of the day. To-do in the calendar helps the users find their tasks easily, prioritize and complete them on time. Let’s see how the to-do list benefits the user on a typical day at work.

Now a days, the calendar in Odoo is used to schedule meetings between users, notify user via email or notification alerts, etc. The end user can view the meetings and respond accordingly. Integrating to-do in the calendar has the following features in Odoo:

  • Creation of to-do task/project/module name as per requirement.
  • Allocation of tasks based on the project created
  • Assigning tasks to other users
  • Prioritising tasks based on importance and deadlines
  • Regular update of tasks based on its progress
  • Tracking the status of each task

To-do Functionality

In the calendar module, as we schedule a meeting with other users, if we want to allot specific tasks, we will have to do this during the meeting which causes a delay. It is not possible to designate tasks while creating meetings. To overcome these difficulties in the meeting module, I have started working on the to-do component and I plan to integrate it with the calendar for greater usability and convenience.

Scheduling tasks based on priority

After creating a task, we can prioritize it in three ways- high, medium and normal. With the help of this facility, the user can easily manage their tasks on time, based on the priority assigned to each task. This would avert delays in the delivery of the final product as well.

By using a filter in the list view of the to-do tab, the tasks will be filtered based on their priority as well as the date and time of creation of that particular task. Below is a screen shot for a better understanding.

Regular update of task based on level of progress

At the time of creation, the progress level of the task will be at 0%. Later, the respective user can change the level of progress of the task by selecting different options available in the selection field.

We can also monitor the status of the task based on its progress level. Initially, the status of the task will be ‘new’. Once we update the progress level, the status will change from ‘new’ to ‘in progress’ and when the progress of the task is 100%, the status changes to ‘complete’.

As of now, I have integrated the to-do function with the calendar to enhance the user experience. I’m working to incorporate this option with more functionalities and if all goes well, I’ll post an update about it.
